Abstract:Yang Hsien-yi's career of Chinese-English poetry translation covers two distinctive phases.From translating Chuci in the earlier period to rendering the poems in Hongloumeng in the later period,his poetic ideals vary with the passage of time.With respect to other reminiscent articles,this article intends to draw an outline for the ideal change of his Chinese-English poetry translation in terms of whether and how poetry is to be translated by exploring his variant poetic ideals in two periods.Meanwhile this article is to provide an objective description of change in his interest towards translation as his job in synchronization with his ideal change,and to emphasize the predominant influence of translators' interest on the translation practice.
