Abstract:Legal term,characterized by accuracy,technicality and univocity,refers to jargons illustrating relatively limited concept when used in legal context.Based on legal concepts and pattern analysis,this thesis studies multiple translations in Chinese-English translation of certain legal noun terms.With a DIY corpus,the authors collect data from the original text of Property Law of People's Republic of China and its three translations to discover examples of mistranslation.Multiple translations of certain nominal terms in legal texts are then classified into various categories in accordance with their legal concepts and general grammatical characteristics for further analysis.Typical examples of mistranslation are then selected and analyzed.The thesis also analyzes ought-to-be features of legal texts and concludes several strategies and techniques for Chinese-English translation of legal nominal terms to reduce quality problems caused by multiple translations Translators shall always follow a general rule-"avoid discrepancy,but retain ambiguity existed in source language",and specific solutions include changing source language,creating new terms and keeping consistency.
