| 回目对仗工整，结构对称，在中国明清小说中起着提纲挈领的作用，具有极高的审美价值和研究价值。基于此，以四大名著的章回目录为研究对象，以四大名著汉英平行语料库为平台检索工具，选取影响深远的四大名著英译本，进行归纳分析，探讨明清小说章回目录的特点。在此基础上进行了对比研究和案例分析，重点论述了回目的英译策略，并剖析翻译背后的原因，发现：从句法角度而言，可采用增译法、替代法、转性翻译法、语态转译法、创译法等翻译方法；从修辞角度而言，针对不同的修辞手法，可采用的翻译方法也各不相同。该发现可以为未来回目英译研究提供一些启示。 |

| Characterized by their wide use of antithesis, Chinese classic chapter titles, which play a vital role in Chinese novels written in the Ming and the Qing Dynasties, are endowed with great aesthetic and research value. This paper researches the chapter titles of the Four Great Classic Chinese Novels with the tool of the Bilingual Parallel Corpora of the Four Great Chinese Classic novels. It studies English translations of chapter titles in the four novels and focuses on features and C-E translation strategies of chapter titles. A comparative study discovers that syntactically, translation methods like amplification, replacement, conversion, and creative adaptation are employed to the translate chapter titles, whereas rhetorically, translation methods vary greatly. The research discusses the underlying causes of translation strategies in order to provide some tips for future researchers. |
