The celebrated Chinese classic novel A Dream of Red Mansions has aroused great interest since it was finished by Cao Xueqin in the middle of the 18th century. It was translated into different languages. The English version of A Dream of Red Mansions analyzed in this paper was translated by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang. This version is widely accepted and applauded for its smooth expressions and great efforts in keeping the special styles of the original novel. Although it is among the best translation of Chinese classic novels, there are still some details with a little bit pity, such as the verdicts of Twelve Beauties of Jinling, which clearly indicates the limitation of translation.
