From a textlinguistic point of view, Hatim and Mason’s intertextual translation theory analyses the function of intertextuality in texts, aiming at enabling the translator to identify intertextual chains and to mediate the transfers of intertextual references. Unfortunately, their theory does not touch upon the issue of intertextual infiltration of target language cultural expressions into the translation due to such mediation. An attempt is made to make up for this drawback.
