Abstract:This article intends to make an analysis of the development of human rights in China since May 4th Movement till now through the semantic changes of the discourse “he is a comrade”, and expounds on the relationship between the discourse and its social context. The evolvement of the meaning of the discourse from “he is a revolutionary”, a general form of address, “he is a non?enemy” to its polysemy, reflects the development of the state of human rights in China’s 4 historical periods, from pursuit, improvement, infringement to all?round promotion and insurance. The article also explains the discourse’s positive function of participating in constructing social practice.
