Abstract:According to the metaphor theory, metaphor is not rhetorical, but a cognitive phenomenon. It is rooted in human language, thought and culture, and has psychological, euphemism and cultural characteristics. German and Chinese use their own death metaphor in the target domain mapping of different source domains, reflecting “fear death, treasure life”, the basic concept of death of the two nations, and highlight the different weights of the three factors of death in German and Chinese culture: religious culture, social class and thoughts of values.
