Abstract:Peter Carey’s Theft A Love Story is a novel with themes of art fraudulence and humanity loss. Australian painter Michael Bones’ entrapment in deception practice not only reveals a postmodern cultural phenomenon that advancement of technology may bring about the loss of art value, but also indicates the hard choice of morality that a painter has to make in the context of to?have?society. Michael’s final return to tradition and humanity declares art and ethics prevail.
