Abstract:The Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation (GIIT) of Shanghai International Studies University was selected as one of the institutions undertaking the comprehensive reform of the professional education, initiated by the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee of China. Out of many exploratory attempts, the institute has made some achievements and won the recognition and praise from the mid-term evaluation. The author attempts to tackle the problems existing in MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) education and provides some overall solutions. From GIIT’s experience, the author focuses his arguments on the consideration, designing and establishment of the professional faculty, the modules and the students’ internship, and at the same time, introduces the institute’s restructuring for the reform.
