The ultimate aim of foreign language teaching is to cultivate students’ intercultural communication competence with the focus on the sensitivity of cultural differences. “Defamiliarization” was a core concept of Russian formalism and it provides some valuable concept for foreign language teaching. The paper is devoted to the discussion of the employment of defamiliarization in the course of target culture input in the foreign language class and putting forward some feasible approaches and strategies.
