Lin Shu is proved to be the most famous translator of Western literature in China in the first two decades of the last century by quoting many famous scholars; but Lin Shu regarded himself as a classicist rather than a translator. According relevant historical data, Lin Shu was very meticulous while creating as a classist, and he cared more for speed while translating, but sometimes his genius as a classist made his translation very charming. It is also discovered that Lin Shu criticized severely the young radicals, who wanted to overthrow the classic Chinese tradition, although he was the first Chinese scholar who came to recognize the artistic value of the Western literature, and that he was a very innovative man, who claimed himself to be a conservative.
