Abstract:The Analects is commonly deemed as the Confucian Bible, which contains aphorism or moral maxims with so many affinities with so many pearls of wisdom in the western culture. In an endeavor to help the western readers see and appreciate the pith and marrow of Confucius’ ideas and notions while rendering The Analects into English, I resort to a strategy of making them near and dear to the western readers, by adding “Appreciation & Critical Comments” part in which I seek to explain Confucius’ thoughts in the clearest way, and one of the most effective techniques is to compare them with those ideas familiar to the average western readers.
