Abstract:Children’s speech acts have been attracting attention from researchers on Child Psychology and Developmental Pragmatics, which are much concerned with the development of children’s linguistic competence and performance. Over the past decade there have been a growing number of researches on children’s speech acts from cognitive and pragmatic perspectives, especially on the pragmatic competence of children in China. This paper, based on the observation of one child’s request acts, analyzes the modes and features of the request speech act of children according to Searle’s indirect speech act theory and relevant principles on developmental pragmatics, probing into the recognition of communicative intentions.
