Abstract:In view of different training models leading to differences of the language competence of the training objects,a research was conducted on two groups of students from Tongji University, one majoring in German and the other consisting of Non-German-major students who study German in public class,on their vocabulary, morphology and syntax competence. The results of the study indicate that the students majoring in German perform better in using vocabulary from quantitative and qualitative aspects, that both groups have a good knowledge of morphology, and yet the German-major students perform a little better and that the German-major students are better than the other group in mastering the variety of syntactic structures and avoiding syntactic errors. Therefore,we can draw the conclusion that professional training is more conducive to enhancing language competence of the students than the training model for the students studying German in public class.
