Teachers play a critical role in teaching reform.Teacher development entails self-motivation and self-innovation.Concerning teacher development,the Craft Model focuses on the tacit knowledge of teaching skills; the Applied Science Model emphasizes the guiding function of scientific knowledge; the Reflective Model gives first priority to teachers’ reflection on teaching practice; Chess-Master-Model features its methodology of teaching video analysis in integrating teaching,research and self-development.In-service university English teachers can achieve self development through strategies such as teaching journal,teaching reflection,teaching video analysis and academic paper writing,thus refining teaching skill,enhancing research ability as well as reform and innovation ability.
