The emergence of "Lin Puns" in 2012 draws widespread interest in English puns,which had played a unique role in the works of English and American literature.In today's world,puns are more often seen in the form of ads,titles and articles in the media,and political slogans.The present paper examines such issues as the origin of the term,functions,the history of the ups and downs of puns and punsters,and the characteristics of different types of puns.
