"Digital Image Processing" is an important professional course of electrical and information discipline in universities and colleges.The aim of classroom teaching is to perform not only the conventional function of transferring knowledge,but also multiple functions of developing abilities and intelligence,etc. This is a main area of teaching and educating people.This paper briefly describes the composition of several ability factors that influence the students in becoming useful persons and the key role of thinking ability,investigates the methods to stimulate students' interest in learning and to develop thinking and ability,and illustrates some practices of cultivating thinking ability in digital image processing course teaching,in order to provide a reference for better digital image processing education.
