The paper explores the lexical features of newspaper English.They are:large number of midget words,constant emergence of abbreviations,frequent use of coinages,numerous borrowings,occasional appearance of words of the reported country,repeated use of words of peripheral meaning.Through citing examples from English newspapers,the author illustrates the 6 lexical features of newspaper English,explains the use of them,and points out the trend of their development.
