The need for interpreters on the market takes on a pyramid-like style. The course of interpreting for English majors in the 3-year college education and the vocational college education—an important integration of the learning of higher education in China—plays a key role in cultivating the talents,either as professional or as part-time interpreters,with basic interpreting skills,with which they can fulfill the tasks at the base of the pyramid level. However,the interpreting education at this level has long been neglected by the gurus in this circle. After analyzing the problems like inaccurate positioning of the course and a lack of qualified teachers etc.,this paper discusses the importance of interpreting course in vocational college education,and proposes suggestions for interpreting teaching in terms of the course positioning,appropriate theories and teaching methodologies etc.
