    Abstract:

In Iris Murdoch's philosophy Good is given the sovereignty over other concepts and replaces God as the center of pilgrimage. The breakdown of the religious community shows the inability of God to solve problems of His followers and the replacement of the Old Bell by the new one indicates the replacement of God by Good in The Bell.On one's way to Good, spiritually independent freedom is getting rid of chains of others and the society on the basis of self-knowledge.Love is the essence of Good.Free individuals with true love can move to Good.Murdoch believes that great art reveals reality and arouses the desire of Good.As a piece of artwork,The Bell inspires Good in various ways such as construction of dual images, the mission of music and paintings in developing stories.
