Abstract:In order to uncover the attitude produced in news photos,the paper,from the perspective of Visual Grammar and Appraisal Theory,along with text-image relations,analyzes the attitudinal resources implied in visual signs.It then conducts a case study of reports on death of Margaret Thatcher by mainstream British newspapers to look into the detailed functioning of attitudes included in the photos amidst these selected media in terms of both the photo in itself and the image-text relation.
