With the increasing international academic exchanges,abstracts of academic journals have become a means of communication among scholars.Whether papers can be published,or whether papers can be quoted by international index system,depends on abstracts,which is of upmost significance.This paper is based on interpersonal function theory in systemic functional linguistics,analyzes choices of interpersonal functions in English abstracts of academic journals for science and engineering category.It hopes to realize interpersonal functions so as to provide help for Chinese academicians and students in terms of writing English abstracts.
