The novel 1984 metaphorically presents a nightmarish picture of totalitarian rule.Against the postmodern turnings of space and linguistics, this essay interprets the secrets of totalitarian rule in light of Foucault's theory of power/discourse combined with his views on body, space and gaze, and thus reveals the inevitable “death of subject”.Hence an insight into Orwell's dystopian attitude and an approach out of the predicament is duly gained.
