In view of the spoon-fed doctrine in English class,low English proficiency and lack of learning motivation of the students in higher vocational colleges,this research explores how effectively carry out the discussion-oriented English teaching in higher vocabulary colleges.Considering a variety of personalities and English proficiency,different strategies are respectively introduced in the three discussion phases.Furthermore,it is advocated that the discussion-oriented teaching style be carried out in English classes in higher vocational colleges,which,being suitable for the students' characteristics and embodying the “student-centered” teaching principle,inspires them to learn English and thus betters the efficiency of English teaching.
