Interpreting Translation of English Poetry into Chinese with Optimal Relevance — Based on the Chinese Version of Sonnets From Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Poetry translation would gain the best contextual effect only when the optimal relevance is found between the original poem and the translated one.This essay introduces the Relevance Theory as well as its interpretation on translation.It also elucidates that Relevance Theory plays an important role in both direct and indirect translation of poetry.Through analyzing and discussing the typical language structures and forms of some poems from the Chinese version of Sonnets From Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning,the essay has certified that the Relevance Theory can help to interpret and translate English poems into Chinese.
