Abstract:There may always exist something unsatisfactory in any literary work,including poetry,at the stage of draft,so it needs to be constantly improved and then further perfected by repeated revising.Prof.Xu Yuanchong is a well-known scholar in the realm of English translation of classical Chinese poetry,and now he is renowned internationally for his English versions of classical Chinese poetry.This paper is intended to explore Prof.Xu's tenacity of constantly improving his English versions of classical Chinese poetry and honing them to excellence through repeated revising,by comparing and analyzing his different English versions of the same original poems,from the perspectives of“beauty in meaning”,“beauty in sound”and“beauty in form”put forward by Prof.Xu himself concerning the English translation of classical Chinese poetry.
