A writer's individuality is an important topic in literary theory, and this paper, enlightened by writer's individuality, introduces the concept of translator's individuality which refers to a translator's unique esthetic and psychological structure based on his or her unique understanding and experience of translation activities.Due to the different individualities of the writer and translator, there are bound to be deviations of the translated text from the source text, which proves the existence of the translator's individuality.Generally speaking, the more evident and creative the deviations, the more prominent the translator's individuality, as can be seen from the unique artistic features of D.Hawkes' translation of Hong Lou Meng.A translator's individuality helps to accelerate the canonization process of both the translator and the translated works and it also provides a fresh topic for translation studies.
