Abstract:With the speakable and unspeakable debates of the Holocaust, Cynthia Ozick creates the widespread Holocaust literature The Shawl which is widely accepted by the readers.By means of narratology and the research findings on Holocaust studies, the paper discusses how Cynthia Ozick has created female narration in The Shawl, explores the historical subject of the fiction, analyzes the narrative mode, and explicates the significance of mother's perspective. It proposes that female's narration of the Holocaust will consolidate women's historical discourse, reflect women's suffering of multiple persecutions, and reconsider the trauma for the individual and the Jews caused by the Holocaust from the mother's perspective.
