Abstract:Within the framework of Hallidayan functional stylistics, the paper, centering on the concepts of discourse context and the negotiation of translator's multiple identities, explores the design principles of translation teaching and constructs a functional stylistic mode of translation teaching. It then illustrates that functional stylistics-based translation teaching may improve students' abilities to construe and reproduce the source discourses and to appreciate and evaluate the target discourses. The research shows that functional stylistics provides a new perspective to translation teaching.
