This paper elaborates on the necessity and urgency of the reform required for college English education in China.It compares the English education system and its effects in China with those in India,and demonstrates how and why the reform is urgently needed.The writer suggests the college English curriculum be transformed to the English for Specific Purposes(ESP) program asap.In addition,he offers recommendations as to how this transition can be achieved including organizing and implementing the reform system,creating effective teaching materials,training ESP teachers and helping them change their perspectives on teaching.
