General recruitment is becoming a trend in colleges and universities, and is a hot topic of reform in higher institutions. The research group investigated the genearl recruitment by some Chinese universities, and analyzed the mode of excellent undergraduate education of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, which solidified the basic education of engineering with integrated cultivation of freshmen. With exploration and practice, the research group realizes that junior grades are the key period of undergraduate education. The general education rather than major should be paid more attention to because this mode can promote extracurricular practices which help students develop in an all-around way. The research group hopes this research could provide reference for the reform of undergraduate education in Colleges and Universities.
