Abstract:Elizabeth Jolley,one of the representatives of Australian modern female authors,has published fifteen full-length novels,five short stories,four collected works.She combines the writing style of postmodernism and humanism.And The Well is the most famous,it won Australia's highest prize for literature——Miles Franklin Literature Prize.As for the female characters in this novel,many domestic scholars have approached them from the perspective of traditional freudianism.This paper attempts to analyze the various female characters with New Freudian Psychoanalytic Theory based on a large number of documents in order to reveal the mental experience of Australian marginal females.
