Abstract:A comparative research has been made between ESP(English for Specific Purposes) and MTI(Master of Translators and Interpreters) in the paper.ESP teaching and MTI teaching focus on practice, application and specialization, though both belong to different academic branches.A distinction is drawn between ESP courses that are "wide-angled"(designed for a more general group of learners) and those that are "narrow-angled"(designed for a very specific group of learners). Many universities in China offer only ESP wide-angled courses. In practical terms, determining and selecting courses may be based on the analysis of findings from universities' speciality characteristics and social needs.
