ESP development in Chinese higher institutions depends on its disciplinary status.ESP could enjoy an independent disciplinary status on the scientific basis in that it has its own theories,research objects,methodology,disciplinary community and publications.Furthermore it is driven by social and pedagogic needs.The fulfillment of the scientific requirements,however,might not guarantee its disciplinary status in China before its legal basis or official agreement.Hence it is urgent to work for the legal status of Chinese ESP.
