Abstract:The hero Simon in Robert Walsers' novel Brothers and Sisters of Tanner does not seek his own career development; he prefers to walk in the nature.Through his observation, perception and reflection,Simon realizes that jobs in the modern society constrain not only the body, but also the spirit of people. So he walks a lot and changes jobs in order to free his body and spirit from the control.Simon's behavior embodies his attitude "I walk so I am".Instead of spirit, body becomes the key to subjectivity of a person.
