Abstract:The famous play Beyond the Horizon,written by the best-known American dramatist Eugene O'Neill,is the great literary work with the theme of protagonist Robert's dream and disillusion.In this poetic and romantic play,Eugene O'Neill manifests the artistic consciousness as well as aesthetic awareness of a tragedy master in shaping tragic characters.He,who seeks for the true model of art,focuses on people's turmoil mind and inward grief,and poetically extols their nobility and calmness embodied in the face of ruthless fate.Based textual analysis on aesthetic theories,the paper aims at interpreting Robert's pure and beautiful poetical life.It not only unveils the connotation and aesthetic implication of the play,but also enlarges the scope and strength of research.
