Since the beginning of the 20th century,researchers have proposed a series of models to explain the process of writing.These important writing models include but are not limited to the “cognitive model”,the “process model”,the “linguistic model”,the “genre model”,the “new model”,the “social constructivism model”,and the “multimodal writing”.These model-based writing approaches have promoted teaching of English writing.It also extends the definition of writing from language output ability to multimodal text output that can be implemented by a variety of techniques that are closely related to social,cultural and writing environment.This article elaborates the model-based writing methods and their characteristics as well as the opportunities and challenges impacted by ESP in the era of artificial intelligence(AI).The purpose of this article is to provide strategies for teachers dedicated to teaching college English writing in order to explore and open up new horizon,new paths in teaching English writing in the era of AI.
