Abstract:Proofreading of TEM8,one of the most important ways to test the proficiency of English majors, deserves diverse scientific studies but no academic research can be found on the performance of English learners at different levels.Through the analysis of scores, interview and causal analysis,we get the following results.1) Learners' English proficiency in comprehensive application(EPCA) is far from satisfactory as the average score of all the subjects is 2.7,only 12.5% of the subjects reach the pass line and the accuracy of one single vocabulary item is as low as 0.83%.2) Only the college teachers group has significant differences with the other three, that is,the sophomores group, the seniors group and the primary and secondary school teachers group, among which there is no significant difference. The insignificant variation indicates that EPCA doesn't increase with the extension of learning time.3) The method of studying vocabulary by combining the meaning in form of Chinese and the sound and forms in English, and the absence of English thinking mode(ETM) affect English competence in comprehensive application(ECCA) and cause low EPCA.It is suggested that learning based on the traits of ETM be adopted to improve ECCA.
