Abstract:Base on the framework of Talmy's motion event theory, this paper analyzes "V across" construction in English and Chinese with a self-built corpora, compares the differences between English and Chinese expression paths of fictive motion events, and elucidates its cognitive mechanism. The results show that:firstly, the mainly perception types of emanation fictive motion is visual motion, which ranks before auditory motion, and other perception motion events.Furthermore, auditory motion and visual motion can be integrated to form synesthetic metaphor;secondly, the path of visual and auditory motion in English is mainly encoded as vector morpheme, while in Chinese it is mainly encoded as conformation morpheme. However,in the texts of auditory motion in Chinese, vector is higher than conformation. Therefore,Chinese emphasizes the relative position of figure and ground when representing visual path;thirdly, the perception of fictivemotion results from dynamic simulation and construal by the experiencer's subjective imagination.
