Abstract:Rooted deeply in the American South,William Faulkner devotes his life to explore the eternal theme of the inner conflict of human mind.On the one hand,Faulkner sharply denounces the loss of human nature,criticizes the southerners' self-escaping existence,grieves over the indulged and fallen Southern ladies,and sympathizes with the mixed blood for their lost in self-identity under racism.On the other hand,Faulkner endeavors to revive all kinds of human virtues,fully affirms the southerners' courage of facing themselves,idolizes the strong and humanitarian Southern women,and admires the mixed blood of strong-willed personality.Based on the fundamental theories of ethical literary criticism,the paper attempts to analyze the ethical relations and phenomena in Faulkner's major works in order to explore his ethical ideas and further reveal his concern for the ethic and moral of the South.
