This paper reports an interview with Academician Zhou Liwei,a well-known expert at electron optics and photoelectronic imaging.Academician Zhou first shared his English and Russian learning experiences,emphasizing learning autonomy.Then he expounded on the importance of foreign language teaching,especially English teaching because of its indispensability to and close relationship with scientific research.Next,he analyzed graduate students' problems in English learning and academic writing,discussing the urgency of offering humanities courses in universities.Academician Zhou concluded the interview with suggestions and expectations on the development of teachers and students at University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
