Abstract:The construction of school-based college English curriculum piques much concern among researchers of college English instruction.Based on needs analysis of shareholders,this study initiated a survey on learning targets,curricular needs and student identity,among 702 non-English major undergraduates,37 college English teachers and 10 deans from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology via questionnaire and semi-structured interviews.The findings show:1) students' learning targets and their identities are diverse;2) the students' anticipation of different teaching goals is positively correlated with their identities;3) students' college English learning is diversified in contents.Based on the research results,the paper suggests that multi-level English teaching curricular system be established in accordance with the education philosophy of the university with the characteristics of science and technology in order to satisfy students' different needs for multiple learning goals.
