Abstract:This paper probes into the cognitive menonymic mechanism in the interaction between the constructions and the events characterized by verbs with examples of caused-motion constructions. It proposes that caused-motion constructions contain the transmission of the force and energy from the agent to the recipient, and embody causative event and mobility event, reflecting a cause-effect logic. The construction and the construal of the caused-motion constructions is the interaction between the constructions and the events characterized by verbs, in which cognitive metonymy plays a vital role. The cause-effect relationship in the source language should be translated directly in the target language, and the focus in translation could be transferred from the sub-event to the complete event or to another sub-event in the complete event chain in order to maintain the menonymic mechanism in the source construction.
