Abstract:Interviews are an important method to study translation teachers, but are not easy to put into practice skillfully. Based on an analysis of 16 novice interviewers’ questions, this study finds that they have difficulties dealing with research questions, interviewees and interviewing skills. The study therefore proposes a three-dimensional solution based on “knowing, acting and reflecting” of the constructivist approach. This approach stresses change in the “interviewer”. The novice interviewers design interview questions based on a thorough analysis of their research question(s) before attempting to establish a relationship with the interviewee, and practising their questioning skills in order to develop better interviewing research techniques.
