Abstract:Following the spirit of Xi Jinping’s speech on July 1st and “Guidelines on Construction of Ideological and Political Curriculum in Colleges and Universities” issued by the Ministry of Education Department, Shanghai Foreign Literature Association (SFLA) held an academic symposium on Foreign Literature & Ideological and Political Curriculum at the College of Foreign Languages, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. The keynote speeches mainly center on five topics: spiritual guidance and classroom practice, textbook selection and teaching design, content and ideology, teaching design and affective mechanism, physical and mental health and alienation. A consensus is reached among scholars that we must establish a China’s discourse system featuring Chinese subjectivity and socialism with Chinese characteristics. This symposium not only discusses relevant theories, but shares enlightening experiences in classroom practices. It is reported by several media, and exerts a positive social influence on innovations and developments in Shanghai’s discipline of foreign literature.
