Abstract:It is universally acknowledged that various scenes and senses of beauty in Tang poetry and song ci into English cannot be accurately translated into English. Xu Yuanchong put forward the theory of “Three Transformations” and created his own unique strategies of English translation of Chinese poetry, which convey meanings as well as emotions. This paper mainly explores the organic combination of “equalization, particularization and generalization” with “beauty in sense” and analyzes the English translation strategies adopted in Xu’s poetry translation, appreciating specific practices of translation aesthetics and enlightening the translator to reproduce the aesthetic connotation of the Chinese poetry more flexibly and accurately. Only when translators better understand the poetry that their deliberately honing and polishing can result in a more ideal translation which can spark resonance among readers and better spread the charm and beauty of traditional Chinese poetry.
