Abstract:Based on corresponding teaching and testing syllabuses after reform in 2010, this paper analyses the content validity of listening comprehension session of PHD 4 within the framework of test task characteristics put forward by Bachman & Palmer (1996), aiming at examining tests’ quality. The findings reveal that the characteristics of the listening tasks and expected response to the test items basically accord with the requirements of the corresponding teaching and testing syllabuses. However, some defects need noticing: test format and task types of some test papers are monotonous while other listening material and test items are too difficult in addition to the dramatically varied speech speed .Compared with GeR A2 listening comprehension, this paper puts forward some tentative suggestions for the future design of the PHD 4 listening comprehension.
