Abstract:Based on the comparison of the English versions of Chinese and American hospital profiles in terms of content, text structure, rhetoric and multi-mode, the present paper attempts to point out the inadequacy of English versions of Chinese hospitals and to discuss the C-E adaptation strategies of Chinese hospital profiles. It is argued that to accommodate the needs of the target readers, we should break the original conventions of the source text and adopt adaptive methods rather than the traditional translation strategies, such as shortening text length, choosing appropriate information and structures, changing the person pronoun and using multi-modes, to produce an English version which conforms to the English norms in both content and form so as to facilitate its transmission.
