Against the background of economic globalization, a growing number of countries are inspired by China’s “Belt and Road” Initiative. It becomes a serious issue for Chinese colleges and universities to foster more talents with both expertise and a good command of English. In this paper, the author first reviewed the status quo of ESP teaching in China, then under the new 2020 College English Teaching Guideline elaborated on the necessary ESP reform in terms of national language strategy, economic development and higher education respectively, and proposed five constructive suggestions, namely internationalization of ESP teaching concept, stratification of ESP curriculum, normalization of staff training, digitalization of ESP teaching resources and building of ESP ecology at the end.
