Abstract:This paper reviewed the research on English for medical purposes in the past ten years in China. By means of the CNKI document tool, the statistical studies focus on papers themed on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Medical Purposes (EMP) and published in China from 2011 to 2020, and the analyses include such factors as the number of published papers, literature resources, distribution of authors and institutions, research topics and perspectives. It was found that 342 papers had been published in CNKI, among which 26 were published in the core academic journals. These printed papers mainly discussed topics like challenges, needs analysis, teaching modes, teaching reform, course books and transformation of teachers with regard to EMP. It was concluded that future study on EMP should explore trans-disciplinary characteristics of “foreign language plus medicine” in order to cultivate more medical talents with excellent English skills in the new era.
